This session features two oolong teas of the same varietal- Lao Cong Shui Xian (老枞水仙)- from Hui Yuan Keng (慧苑坑)in Wuyi Mountain. We will look at how environment and craftsmanship shape the same varietal into distinctively different teas.
It is widely recognised that the finest Lao Cong Shui Xian comes from Hui Yuan Keng- celebrated for its mineral rich soil, misty microclimate, and centuries old tea heritage.
The first tea, harvested in 2017 from eight old tea bushes in Hui Yuan, is crafted in a light style, revealing a refined fruity fragrance.
The second, harvested in 2021 is deep and rich with a trace of keng jian wei (坑间味). Traditionally roasted, it offers complexity and a soothing finish.
Both teas will be brewed in the Minnan gongfu style, using Qing dynasty teaware- an experience that invites reflection on how nature, time, and human touch converge in the art of Wuyi rock oolong.
